確実に流氷を見るなら2月・・・って事で今回の日程に決めたのですが、、強風のせいか流氷は羅臼から遥か彼方に流れてしまっていました(苦笑)
自然相手なので仕方がないですが、、ちょっと残念。
By adding Monday off, I made extended weekend and went to Rausu. The main purpose is to watch floating ice, Steller's sea eagle, White-tailed Sea Eagle, 2 species of seal (Spotted Seal, Ribbon Seal) and, if possible, Steller Sea Lion!
Since February is the best month to see floating ice, I set last extended weekend. However due to strong wind for a few days, floating ice was gone somewhere....
I understand this is nature thing, but somewhat disappointed.
さて、、そんな訳で今回は主に羅臼港近辺で鳥や動物を観察していました。
以下二枚は、羅臼到着早々に歓迎してくれた（？）オオワシとオジロワシ。
For this reason, I spend most of time around Rausu port to see birds and animals.
Below two photos are ones I took just after arrival.
-Steller's sea eagle
両種共に結構な数が見られました。こちらはオジロワシの幼鳥。
For both Steller's sea eagle and White-tailed Sea Eagle, I watched many.
-Juvenile of White-tailed Sea Eagle.
そしてあくる日、、早朝は晴れていました。が、、船に乗って鳥を観察し始めた頃には曇り始め、、雪もチラつき始めました。 もともと、、厳冬の北海道をイメージした寒々とした雰囲気の写真を撮ってみたいと思っていたので、これはこれでOKでした。
In the second day, weather was fine in early morning. But, when I boarded the ship to watch bird, sky was getting covered with crowd and it started snowing. Since I wanted to take photos which imagine 'freezing winter in Hokkaido', this change was fine.
雪中のオジロワシ。見た目だけでなく、ほんとに寒かったです(笑)
White-tailed Sea Eagle in the snow. It was very very ice cold.
オオワシ成鳥。オジロワシも大きな鳥ですが、、オオワシの方がよりガッシリとしています。
Adult of Steller's sea eagle. White-tailed Sea Eagle is also a big bird, but Steller's sea eagle looks more sturdy.
オオワシ幼鳥。色々なステージの幼鳥がいたようで、翼の模様に結構バリエーションがありました。
Juvenile of Steller's sea eagle. I found several stage (age) of young bird, and noticed their wing pattern also had variation.
氷上を飛ぶオジロワシ。岸壁などが見えていませんが、何れも羅臼港内で撮っています。
White-tailed Sea Eagle flying over the floating ice. Though quay is not seen in the photo, these photos were taken in the port.
この日は午後から風が吹き始め、降雪も強くなり、、本当に寒かったです。こちらは、そんな中で撮ったシロカモメ。
In the afternoon on this day, wind started blowing and snowing heavily. And it was quite cold. In such situation, I took below photo of Glaucous Gull.
あくる日は快晴♪
ワシの出は少々悪かったですが、それでも観察するには十分な数でした♪
In the third day (last day), whether was fine!
Though number of eagles was not so many like yesterday, it was enough to watch.
こちらはオジロワシの成鳥
Adult of White-tailed Sea Eagle.
ホバリング中のオジロワシ幼鳥。去年は氷上に止まっているところばかり観察＆写真に撮っていましたが、今年は飛翔中のものを重点的に撮ってました。
撮るのは大変ですが、やはり動きがあっていいですね。
Juvenile of White-tailed Sea Eagle hovering in the sky. When I visited Rausu last year, I mainly watched and took photo of birds on the ice. But this time, I took photos of flying bird mainly.
It was harder to take such photos, but they looks more fascinating.

オオワシ、オジロワシ共にウミワシだけあって、海上を飛ぶシーンは雰囲気がありますね。
Since both eagles are sea eagle, flying birds over the sea fit my image of them.
氷上を飛ぶシーンもいいですが、、背景を山で抜いた写真も結構好きです。
However, I also like the shot of them with mountain in the background.
↑にも書いた通り、ワシ撮影は主に羅臼港内でやってました。なので、背景に人工物が入らないように注意をしていました。が、、撮影に夢中になると鳥しか目に入らなくなるので、以下二枚のような写真を結構撮ってました(笑)
ま、これが実際の姿でもあるんですよね。人とワシがこんなに近くで生活している場所ってのも珍しいんではないでしょうか。
As I wrote in the above, I mainly took photo of eagles in the port. Though I paid attention not to include artificial things in the background at first. After I was getting more absorbed to take photo, I only saw bird in the finder. Then, I took many photos like below...
Though these photos look not so fancy, this is the reality. And I think there are not so many places where eagles and people live in close distance.
以前、オオワシを見に根室の風連湖に行ったことがあるのですが、、相当距離があっても人が少し動くだけでワシ達はすぐに飛び去っていきました。これが普通なんでしょうね
Some years before, I have been to Fuhrenko-lake in Nemuro. Though I kept considerable distance between me and eagles, they flew away even by small motion. I think this is normal.
その他、、港内で見かけた動物というと、、、ゴマフアザラシ。
やっぱり可愛いですね。
Other animals I spotted in the port was Spotted Seal. As usual, they were very cute.

ウミアイサ♂ サイケな感じの冠羽ですね～
Male of Red-breasted Merganser.
おまけは山の斜面で見かけたタヌキ。かなり距離が離れていたものの、、生きている野生の個体を見るのは初めてでした♪ 毛皮がフカフカそうで温かそうですね。
Just before I left Rausu, I found raccoon dog. This was my first encounter to see wild and live raccoon dog. Though there was certain distance between them and me, it was still nice.
とまぁ、、今回も写真は多数撮りましたが、ハイライトはこんな感じでした。
やっぱり羅臼は面白い！ そんな訳で、また行かんとな～と早くも考えています(笑)
As usual, I took plenty of photos. And these are highlight of what I saw and enjoyed in Rausu.
I already started thinking when to visit next in this year.
